4th MUSICAL-MENTE Concert Cycle

Teatro Nacional São João hosts the fourth edition of MUSICAL-MENTE, curated by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, inspired by the connections between music and poetry. This cycle includes three monographic concerts dedicated to Vivaldi, Liszt, and Piazzolla.

Each concert begins with a poetic prelude, reflecting the profound resonance these composers found in poetry. A prime example is the Italian Antonio Vivaldi and his cycle The Four Seasons, which opens this edition. The score itself includes four sonnets, marking one of the earliest examples of programmatic music. Spring, summer, autumn, and winter unfold in sounds and words, echoing the passage of time.

The Anglo-German violinist Jack Liebeck and the Juventus Ensemble lead us through the sensations and emotions of each season, highlighting the proximity between musical and poetic languages—whether through rhythm, the measure of verses or bars, or the creation of vivid imagery. The Italian-style stage of Teatro São João provides the perfect frame for this journey to Italy.
