Introduction
Welcome to the 2nd edition of the Bragança ClassicFest International Music Festival!
2021 saw the birth of this unique cultural event in Bragança - a territory of historical and cultural reference in Portugal. Conceived and held during the tragic period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the 1st Bragança ClassicFest was an immediate success with sold out concerts held in the excellent hall of the Municipal Theater and in other ex-libris of Bragança, in a salutary crossing between Music and Heritage. This happy and memorable beginning of Bragança ClassicFest, hailed nationally and internationally, had the presence and the brilliance of world-renowned artists, launching the motto of excellence for a future of new challenges, (re)discoveries and fascinations.
The 2022 edition will bring to Bragança top international ensembles and musicians, among which deserves to be highlighted the presence of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, considered one of the world’s leading orchestras.
Several renowned musicians will come to this 2nd edition, such as the famous French violist Gérard Caussé, accompanied by his legendary viola built in 1560 by Gasparo da Salò; the bandoneon virtuoso and Argentinian composer Marcelo Nisinman, the only student of Astor Piazzolla and a world reference in contemporary tango; mezzo-soprano Lena Belkina, a multi-award winning Ukrainian singer based in Vienna; the Bulgarian violinist Mario Hossen, one of the greatest virtuosos and specialists in Paganini.
It is also noteworthy the participation of young musicians, with emphasis on the debut of the Juventus Ensemble and the return to Bragança ClassicFest of the violinist and rising-star Diana Tishchenko, who, after her unforgettable performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in last year’s festival, will present in 2022 a recital with works from the 19th to the 21st century, which will include the world premiere of “The Last Lullaby”, written by his compatriot Bohdan Sehin, one of the main Ukrainian composers of our time.
The 2nd edition of Bragança ClassicFest (re)affirms its vocation as a cultural event of international dimension and as a reference of excellence in the city, region and country, continuing its path of quality, rigor and artistic sharing, which promotes universal access to Culture and the celebration of community life through the extraordinary and unique universal language that is Music! I express my deep gratitude to the institutions that make possible the Bragança ClassicFest International Music Festival, starting with the invaluable support of the Municipality of Bragança, the Municipal Theater of Bragança and the DSCH Associação Musical, organizers of this praiseworthy initiative, and of the main patron BPI/“la Caixa” Foundation”. I also thank the General-Directorates for Arts and Higher Education, the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, the Diocese of Miranda-Bragança, the media partner RTP Antena 2 and, especially, His Excellency the President of the Republic, for the High Patronage granted.
