On the 28th October 2018, to mark the 25th anniversary of Centro Cultural de Belém, DSCH – Shostakovich Ensemble presented a concert with works by one of the greatest composers in history: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. A special occasion to perform his only two Piano Quartets, chamber music masterpieces and pioneers of a genre that would be embraced by many composers that idolized Mozart: Schumann, Brahms, Dvořák, Strauss… The wonderful Piano Quartets by Mozart, contemporary to The Marriage of Figaro, achieve the perfect synthesis between his String Quartets and Concertos for Piano and Orchestra. The program includes yet another two “Mozartian jewels”: the brilliant Piano Trio in C Major and the inspired Sonata for Piano and Violin in E minor. For this celebratory concert MozartFest, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, founder and artistic director of Schostakovich Ensemble, invited an outstanding group of musicians: Jack Liebeck, one of great violinists of his generation, Mathieu Herzog, renowned French violist and conductor, and the Jerusalem Quartet cellist, Kyril Zlotnikov, which recorded with Daniel Barenboim the complete Mozart Piano Trio works for EMI.
