Festival and Academy VERÃO CLÁSSICO 2020 with great success
The 6th edition of Festival and Academy VERÃO CLÁSSICO was held with great success, both artistically and pedagogically, despite the difficulties and restrictions caused by the pandemic of COVID-19.
As planned, SUMMER CLASSIC 2020 took place between 26 July and 4 August 2020, in Lisbon. It included seven concerts and hundreds of Masterclasses with the participation of musicians and teachers from some of the most prestigious international educational institutions and soloists from the best world orchestras.
As in 2019, the Masterclasses VERÃO CLÁSSICO had in 2020 the participation of 200 young musicians, 100 of whom were Portuguese and 100 from more than 20 countries.
The Portuguese press covered the event significantly, such as:

Expresso newspaper article:
“6th edition of Verão Classico, the summer event par excellence in the capital where it occupies the place of honor of classical music.
Since 2015, Classic Summer has grown, showing the resilient side of culture. Fighting against winds and tides, the festival director managed the feat of expanding the event to new venues such as the Palácio Fronteira, the Thalia Theater, the Palácio das Laranjeiras and the National Conservatory of Lisbon. It is in them that the festival will develop the other strand, the educational-pedagogical one directed to 200 instrumentalists enrolled for improvement in masterclasses taught under the guidance of musicians of international excellence such as the violinists Jack Liebeck, Mihaela Martin and Tedi Papavrami, the bassist Janne Saksala, the singer Anna Samuil, cellists Gary Hoffman, Kyril Zlotnikov and Frans Helmerson, clarinetist Pascal Moraguès and pianists Eldar Nebolsin and Henri Sigfridsson, among many others.
It is worth noting this combination in Lisbon, in the space of ten days of musicians of the highest order.
The event, open to all audiences and with some free admission recitals, will have excellent moments like those of the three biggest shows designated as Masterfest presented at Teatro Thalia.” In Expresso, 25.07.2020, by Ana Rocha
Internationally, it is worth noting the presence in Lisbon of the main French classical music website, Classiquenews, which published an excellent article about VERÃO CLÁSSICO 2020, at http://www.classiquenews.com/compte-rendu-festival-lisbonne-verao- classico-2020-a-lecole-de-lexcellence-musicale/ and that highlighted:
“Festival and Academy VERÃO CLÁSSICO resonates like a balm against the silence and isolation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, students and teachers share, experiment, deepen, for the great pleasure of the festival's audience, who, as a privileged witness, can follow step by step the stages of solo instrumental work and also the delights of musical sharing because, in the evening, the concerts mix experienced talents and young temperaments that face the challenges of collective and chamber music. A fascinating experience for the audience and for the musicians.
Masks in place, respected distances, work sessions and concerts follow one another at a continuous pace.
This edition takes place on a new form, shining in Lisbon, and not only at the Centro Cultural de Belém, which until then was its usual place. The Thalia Theater, integrated in the Palácio das Laranjeiras, as well as the Marqueses da Fronteira Palace (and its remarkable 18th century tiles), offer to the musicians, at concerts and masterclasses, two prestigious spaces. In addition to being a notable birthplace of young artists, guided by experienced soloists, VERÃO CLÁSSICO is now a new destination with high heritage value.
The 10 days of the VERÃO CLÁSSICO thus show permanent work, the common will to overcome, the search for pleasure, excellence and complicity. The professors invited by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro are all renowned soloists, coveted teachers, offering this year’s 200 students a unique opportunity to continue to perfect their instrumental skills. During their stay in Lisbon, the musicians offer the public a stimulating and comforting bath of music; a break this summer of all the challenges, a real result that assumes itself as a liberating escape.” In Classiquenews, 28.08.2020, by Lucas Irom
